LA Automotive Repair Shop Charged with Clean Piping
California state regulators have shut down a local automotive repair shop in Los Angeles smog check shop that allegedly has been routinely and illegally certifying high polluting cars.
The Bureau of Automotive Repair said that during a two-hour undercover surveillance of the AM PM Smog shop, each of the 13 smog tests conducted there were fraudulent. Investigators saw employees use exhaust from a clean vehicle to enter data for a dirty car in a practice known as "clean piping."
The shop owner of AM PM Smog Shop and two of the employees could face criminal charges.
